Our client is a leading economic development agency and a champion for local growth in a major Canadian city. They promote the city to attract new businesses, investors, events and visitors through special programs, compelling incentives and advertising of the competitive advantages of the local market.
 Their Market Intelligence and Research team provide critical intelligence back to the agency gleaned from extensive data analytics, economic research and trend analysis aimed to help with the growth and development of the city. 
This team used data from numerous sources including business, tourism, economic indicators and city planning data that resided in offsite databases, government sites and in their own data library. Our client wanted a solution that could consolidate the data from multiple sources into one solution, allowing their team to spend more time using the data, and less time managing the various data sources.

 

The Solution

Understanding the need to centralize disparate data sources into one solution, Online started by reviewing the existing processes and reporting assets to understand the current state, and then completed an analysis based on the requirements for a future state, proposing a solution to support the needs of the organization.
The recommended solution used an AWS platform to build an automated process to ingest data from external public data sources into a common repository that the agency could subsequently use for reporting and analysis.
Online built the necessary data and integration processes and created the AWS cloud instance, recommending tooling the agency could use to carry out the needed reporting activities for the agency's internal and external clients.

Results

Online successfully enabled the agency's Market Intelligence and Research team in such a way that they can get access to the information they need, without manual work-arounds to access data sources.
While the initial scope of this engagement only covered a small number of data sources as a proof of concept, Online continues to work with them to expand to additional data sources allowing more expansive and detailed reporting to further enable the agency to delight their customers and stakeholders.
All of this is being done on a platform that has a very low monthly cost, is always available, is accessible from anywhere and has data that is always up to date with the latest information available with no manual intervention.
